I recently lead a smoothie tasting workshop and was asked to post the recipes on my blog. So here they are! The green smoothie may sound odd, but believe it or not, it was everyone’s favorite!

Leafy green smoothie
- 1 cup raw kale
- 1 cup mint
- 1 banana
- 2 tsp coconut oil or olive oil
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup water
Blend all ingredients in blender. Add additional water or juice until you reach the desired consistency. This makes a nice-sized smoothie and is a great way to start your day!
Additions/substitutions
- Parsley: Add ½ cup to the original recipe, or swap out mint for parsley. Parsley is loaded with vitamins and minerals. It makes a stronger-tasting drink, but is well worth the health benefits.
- Ground flaxseed: add 1-2 TBS instead of oil.
- Peeled and diced (medium dice) green apple. If you own a vitamix, there is no need to peel or chop the apple.
- Dandelion greens. Add about a half cup. Dandelion greens are highly-nutritious. They have a bitter taste (and as such are excellent for the liver), so start with a small amount and work your way up to more as your palette becomes accustomed to the bitterness.
- Baby spinach: Replace spinach for the kale or use half and half.
- ¼ of a ripe avocado instead of the oil. You won’t even notice it’s there, and it will add a nice creaminess to the smoothie.
Tropical Sunshine Smoothie
I love this smoothie. It reminds me of being in the tropics or in Mexico.
- 1 cup diced fresh pineapple
- 1 cup diced watermelon
- ½ cup diced mango
- ¼ coconut milk
- ½ – ¾ cup cold water (use more if needed)
Blend all ingredients in a blender. Enjoy!
Additions/substitutions
- Cantaloupe: swap out any of the fruit, or use half and half.
- ½ a banana: for a creamier smoothie
- Papaya: swap out another fruit, or use half and half.
- Mint: add ½ cup for a refreshing twist
- Kiwi: add one peeled and chopped kiwi
Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
- ½ cup almond milk
- ¼ cup canned pumpkin puree
- ½ cup vanilla yogurt
- ½ t vanilla extract
- 1 t pumpkin pie spice
Blend all ingredients together. Enjoy!
Very Berry Smoothie
- ½ cup frozen wild blueberries
- ½ fresh raspberries
- ½ cup fresh strawberries
- ½ cup yogurt
- 1 banana
- ½ cup orange juice
- ½ cup water
- Blend all ingredients in blender.
Additions/substitutions
- Blackberries: swap out raspberries for blackberries.
- Wheat germ: add 1 Tbs.
- Ground almost: add 1 Tbs.
- Ground flaxseed: add 1-2 Tbs.
- Currants: add ¼ cup fresh currants
- Black Cherry juice: swap out the orange juice or water for black cherry juice.
- Frozen Cherries: swap out any of the berries for frozen cherries.
- Coconut milk: swap out yogurt for coconut milk
- Cape gooseberries: these are delicious and very nutritious if you can find them! Swap out any berry for them.
